All About Marjorie Evasco

Marjorie Evasco is an award- winning Filipino poet, born in MaribojocBohol on September 21, 1953. She writes in two languages: English and Cebuano-Visayan and is a supporter of women's rights, especially of women writers. Marjorie Evasco is one of the earliest Filipina feminist poets.

Marjorie is born into a family of teachers who were "always talking English".  she was brought up and educated as a Roman Catholic and her formative years in school were spent under the tutelage of German and Belgian nuns.

Marjorie's prizing-winning poetry books are:  Dreamweavers: Selected Poems 1976-1986 (1987) and Ochre Tones: Poems in English and Cebuano(1999). Ochre Tones was launched last May 1997 at National Artist Edith L. Tiempo's residence on Montemar (SibulanNegros Oriental). Evasco calls this volume a " book of changes," following Dreamweavers which for her was a " book of origins."

This are the three poem of Marjorie Evasco

CARAVAN OF THE WATERBEARERS (Mitzvah with Grace)
We will not forget the evil eye
 of the storm they raised,
gutting the grounds we defended.
We have been trained
to look away too often
when man’s flesh, muscle, bone,
knifed woman, to protect
the child’s eye from the dust
of the lord’s sin against
our kind, pretending
our tears are daughters of the wind
blowing across no-woman’s- land.
We have had to seek the center
of the storm in the land we
claim is ours, too. Faces keening towards
the full force of winds
once blinding us, we see
the blur of broken earth,
blasted wastes, damned seas.
Our vision clears in our weeping We have joined the trek
of desert women, humped over
from carrying our own oases
in the claypots of our lives,
gathering broken shards we find
in memory of those who went
ahead of us, alone.
When we seize the water source
our ranks will complete the circle
we used to mark around our tents,
making homes, villages, temples,
schools, our healing places.
And we will bear witness for our daughters and sons,
telling them true stories
of the caravan.

THE QUICK BRUISE AND RUN Of LOVE (for Mary Ann & Marc)
I.
Summer twilight slices into two
Halves of a sweet cantaloupe;
At table, the speckled stargazer
Opens its fragrant petals windward;
At my foot, our old cat dreams.
Nothing here betrays the grace
We speak of at each meal, together
Or alone. Today, while one of us
Sits under the tamarinds,
And another wades the golden river,
I alone sit at table, a mother
Attending to the core of fruit
Cleaving to the knife, the fuchsia
Flower sundered by summer’s heat,
The cat purring its ninth life away
II.
Yesterday night after dinner, we told
An old story, pausing at a part
We did not love but could not
Gnaw off. It is your hurt fathered
Into child’s shape, vulnerable
To faithlessness. As the story twists In the telling, you speak of a new
Born child, whose limbs could break
Or neck snap. were one of you to hold
The tender heels and swing against a wall.
We need to put this story right.
III.
Long, long ago on a fevered night,
A mother sat by her child’s bed,
Damp cloth soothing flame of forehead,
Limbs. in her vigil she vowed
On pain of death, to beg the life
Or health back into those cheeks.
The fever broke, she held her kind
And knew the gods had ears.
Son, Daughter, take this story-child
With care. In the curve of your arms
Your father’s fruit survives the fall,
Becomes your bruised but living grace.

Home Schooling

Home schooling is the education of children inside the home, as opposed to in the formal settings of a public or private school. Home education is usually conducted by a parent or tutor. Many families that start out with a formal school structure at home often switch to less formal and, often, more effective ways of imparting education outside of school. "Homeschooling" is the term commonly used in North America, whereas "home education" is more commonly used in the United Kingdom, elsewhere in Europe, and in many Commonwealth countries.Prior to the introduction of compulsory school attendance laws, most childhood education was imparted by the family or community In several countries homeschooling in the modern sense is considered to be an alternative to attending public or private schools, and is a legal option for parents. In other countries homeschooling is considered illegal or restricted to specific conditions, as noted in the Homeschooling international status and statistics.

Parents cite two main motivations for homeschooling their children: dissatisfaction with the local schools and the interest in increased involvement with their children's learning and development. Parents' dissatisfaction with available schools includes concerns about the school environment, the quality of academic instruction, the curriculum, and bullying as well as lack of faith in the school's ability to cater to their child's special needs. Some parents home school in order to have greater control over what and how their children are taught, to better cater for children's individual aptitudes and abilities adequately, to provide a specific religious or moral instruction, and to take advantage of the efficiency of one-to-one instruction, which allows the child to spend more time on childhood activities, socializing, and non-academic learning.

Homeschooling may also be a factor in the choice of parenting style. Homeschooling can be an option for families living in isolated rural locations, for those temporarily abroad, and for those who travel frequently. Many young athletes, actors, and musicians are taught at home to better accommodate their training and practice schedules. Homeschooling can be about mentor ship and apprenticeship, in which a tutor or teacher is with the child for many years and gets to know the child very well.

The top benefits of home schooling are

Parents have the opportunity to:

Determine the curriculum and their children's schooling schedule
Demonstrate to their children that education is fun
Create strong bonds with their children
Adapt teaching methods best suiting how their children learn
Spend extra time with their children on difficult concepts and move ahead after children master a subject or concept
Create a flexible schedule not possible for children enrolled in public school
Provide religious and ethical instruction for their children
Shelter children from school violence, drugs, and other negative behaviors children in public schools frequently encounter
Provide their children with the personal interaction that teachers in large classrooms are not able to provide
Spend extra time helping their children develop any special talents they possess, including musical, athletic, etc
Discuss controversial topics at their discretion with their children
Enjoy spending more time with their children
Assist their children during adolescence and other trying times
Draw closer to their spouse as they home school their children together
Take their children on vacations when public school is still in session

Then there is also a disadvantage of home schooling
Homeschooling parents are required to:

Be around their children all day long. This can be difficult when children become restless and misbehave
Frequently explain their reasons for homeschooling their children to friends and relatives unsympathetic or confused about their decision
Restrain anger and remain patient when children struggle with learning
Effectively handle the difficulties of moving at a slower pace than public school instruction
Spend large amounts of money on books and other learning materials
Constantly adapt to be effective teachers
Constantly motivate their children
Speak with other people homeschooling their children to get ideas about solving difficult problems if they're unsure about the best course of action
Spend time reviewing numerous curriculum programs up to their standards and best suiting their children's learning needs
Spend more time finding playmates and friends for their children in similar circumstances

Although there are many other benefits and disadvantages associated with homeschooling, the aforementioned information provides you with an idea of what to expect as a homeschooling parent.

Homeschooling can be very stressful, but it's also rewarding. However, homeschooling is not for every parent, and parents unprepared or unwilling to make the commitment to be an effective teacher should avoid it.

PAIN DEMANDS TO BE FELT

The pain you feel is your body's way of telling you that something isn't right.
That there is something that needs healing. That you're overdoing something or even not doing something enough, or even a message from your heart saying one of your relationships needs attention. And like that famous lines from  that famous movie goes "pain demands to be felt".

So you can suppress it with painkillers, we can try not to think about it, but all those are just temporary fixes. The only way for it to go away is to befriend the pain. Because if not then no matter how hard we try.... that pain will keep demanding to be felt.

APC Non- Smoking Camping

Smoking is the inhalation of the smoke of burning tobacco encased in cigarettes, pipes, and cigars. Casual smoking is the act of smoking only occasionally, usually in a social situation orto relieve stress. A smoking habit is a physical addiction to tobacco products. Many health experts now regard habitual smoking as a psychological addiction, too, and one with serious health consequences.

An Anti Smoking Camping was held last October 21, 2015 at Asia Pacific College with Engr. Emer Rojas who undergoes Laryngectomy. He shares to us what he has experienced and explain to us what are the consequences of smoking. One stick of cigar contains more than 4000 chemical compounds.

TURN LEFT TURN RIGHT

TURN LEFT TURN RIGHT
“Destiny is not a matter of chance; it is a matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.” “I told you. You don't love someone because of their looks or their clothes or their car. You love them because they sing a song only your heart can understand.” The movie Turn left Turn Right show how destiny played the lives of two people  who have been crossing in each other without knowing it.

This story is based on the illustrated book A Chance of Sunshine  by Taiwanese author Jimmy Liao, who makes a cameo appearance with his wife and daughter in the film. It is also the first Chinese-language Asian film ever from produced and distributed by Warner Bros.
The original graphic novel was first published in 1999. The characters in the novel were not given names, both characters were only referred to as "him" and "her". Chinese title of the book translates to "Turn Left, Turn Right", A Chance of Sunshine is the original English title of the book, on the newer published editions the English title is shown as "Turn Left, Turn Right". The book consists of a series of detailed illustrated images, with a small amount of text in poetry style. The film has managed to include every single image in the book with a high level of accuracy, although some are fleeting.
The story tells of two people who live in buildings right next to each other, separated only by a wall, and are always near each other but can't seem to find one another.

John Liu (Takeshi Kaneshiro) is a violinist who works from job to job. During one of his gigs, he meets June, who offers to give him a ride home. However she flirts aggressively with John during the ride which frightens him. To get away from her he jumps out of her car and makes a run for his apartment building. The next day he sees her waiting for him on the left corner of his building which makes him avoid going to the left of his building.

Eve Choi (Gigi Leung) is a translator for a book publishing company. Her job is to translate foreign books into Chinese. She is given the daunting task of translating a horror novel into Chinese. At night while translating the horror novel she gets frightened and thinks her home is haunted. The next day she notices a scary-looking tree to the right of her apartment building and, frightened, she refuses to go to the right of her building.

John and Eve meet by accident at the park fountain, when he helps her pick up her papers that have fallen into the fountain. They find out that they had met each other when they were younger at an amusement park, when both their schools had organized a field trip to the same place. Then, Eve had asked John for his telephone number, but the two never got in touch because she left her school bag on the train and lost John's phone number. The two laugh about the past and exchange phone numbers without asking for each other's name before parting quickly because of a coming rainstorm.

That night, both are happy and excited to have met each other again, but both also came down with the flu because of the earlier rainstorm. The flu medication John has on hand has expired and he decides not to take it. Eve is overjoyed and forgets to take her medication. The next day the two are devastated to find out that the phone numbers they had exchanged are unreadable due to the paper getting wet during the rainstorm. Both can only make out a few numbers and vainly call several phone numbers at random hoping to get through to one another.
One of the numbers they called is a restaurant that Ruby (Terri Kwan) works at as a waitress and delivery person. Both John and Eve, ill and not wanting to leave their home because they're afraid that they would miss the other person's phone call, decides to order delivery from Ruby's restaurant. Ruby falls in love with John at first sight when she arrives at his home to make her delivery. Seeing the smudged pieces of paper on both John and Eve's table, Ruby soon finds out that the two are trying to find each other. To distract John from the apartment located in the next building Ruby tells him an old lady lives in that apartment.John's and Eve's flu become so severe that they are both taken to the hospital, John by Ruby and Eve by an ambulance. They both meet Dr. Hu (Edmund Chen), but Dr. Hu happens to be a former University classmate of Eve's, who has a crush on her. He tells Eve that it must be fate that they met each other again and proceeds to check her into the hospital to get the best care possible, while discharging John from the hospital, changing his mind only when Ruby argues with him about how severe John's illness is. Both John and Eve give their home keys to Ruby and Dr. Hu to set up voicemail at their home in case the other person calls.
Once John and Eve are discharged from the hospital they find out that Dr. Hu and Ruby had literally moved into each of their apartments, but both make it clear that they are not interested in them since they already love someone else. Heartbroken, drunk and sobbing to each other Dr. Hu and Ruby decide to get together. Taking revenge on John and Eve for breaking their hearts, they send pictures to them showing how many places they had missed finding each other. John and Eve find Dr. Hu and Ruby to talk about the pictures they had received in the mail. Ruby gives Eve's phone number to John telling him it's her number to test if she was ever in his heart and Dr. Hu does the same to Eve, but they do not call.
John and Eve are frustrated about not being able to find each other and decide to take jobs abroad. On the day they are to leave Taiwan, an earthquake strikes, destroying the wall that separates their apartment. Both finally find each other.

Time Management

Time management is a wrong term. The challenges are not to manage your time, but manage ourselves. The key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule, but to schedule our priorities. Managing our time with setting priorities is like shooting randomly and calling whatever we hit the target. If we organize our life well we find more time for everything. There are good and bad news if we don’t manage our time, the bad news is time flies and the good news is we are the pilot. Most of us spend too much time on what urgent and not enough time on what is IMPORTANT. Every day is a new beginning, take a deep breath and start again. Time is really the only capital that any human being has, and the only things we can’t afford to lose. Time is a created thing to say I don’t have time, is like saying, I don’t want to.

Time = Life, therefore, waste your time and waste of your life, or master your time and master your life. People use hours of a day differently. But, the way you spend your time determines the quality of your life.
Don’t be fooled by the calendar. There are only as many days in the year as you make use of. One man gets only one week‘s value out of a year while another man gets a full year’s value out of a week.
Sometimes we’re all too quick to count down the days that we forget to make the days count. That’s why we need to manage our time so we can do our priorities and we can spend our free time to our love ones.
In managing our time we need to streamlining, performance, proactive, focus, delegate, planning, to do list, efficient, priorities, project, and organizer.

MY SELF INTRODUCTION!

I don’t know how to introduce myself because I’m not good into introducing myself but I will try my best to introduce myself to you. So here it goes. I’m Ryland Russelle B Reyes but you can call me Rai instead, I’m 17 years old and I have a younger sister. My hobbies are playing volleyball, singing and dancing. If I have a spare time I usually bake cupcakes or hang out with my friends. Now I will tell you a short story about my life. When I was the only child I can get or buy what everything I want but when my mom gave birth to my younger sister the things that I want to buy or have is was given to my younger sister but it’s okay for me because when I was the only child I’m a spoiled brut to my father because if I want something I just tell it to my father then he would buy it for me. When I started going to school I use to go to a catholic school where my cousin is studying but I stop because I was scared of a nun. Then when I reach the age of 4 that’s when I really started to going to school, when I graduated grade 6 I didn’t received any award but that’s okay. But when I graduated from 4TH year high school I received an award and my award was 5th honorable mention.

Now this is the picture of my family, relatives, friends and my best boyfriend. They are the reason why I have a smile in my face. When I have a problem I always tell them what my problem is so they can help me and give advice what to do when I have a problem. They always support me in everything I do but they only support when the things I do is right. I’m thankful that I have them beside me.
